Introduction to Jose C. Paz
Jose C. Paz is a prefecture-level city in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Situated in northwest Buenos Aires Province, it is 35km away from the capital of the Republic of Argentina, with a total population of about 270,000.
In July 1912, José Clemente Paz died in Montevideo and was a diplomat, journalist and founder of the La Prensa newspaper before death. His friend Alturbe proposed to commemorate him, which was supported by local people. Therefore, the “Committee to Commemorate Journalists” was established, with General José Garmendia acting as the Chairman. They negotiated with national and local authorities, requesting to rename the town as Jose C. Paz and giving the same name to Peace Railway Station and a street in the city. On May 5, 1913, the request was approved by the provincial government.
The city shows slight topographic undulations, which is typical in Pampas. The strata are comparatively deep, composed of 3dm deep humus soil and clay stratum underneath. There is no vast land without buildings or afforestation on it at present.
Jose C. Paz seldom witnesses tall buildings and the highest building is Tower Plaza Center. Medium to low-level residences sit in most areas in the city while medium- to high-level or high-level residences sit in the central area. Main industries include porcelain, textile and food, and one of the most outstanding enterprises is a refrigerator manufacturer.
