Main exchanges with Xiangyang

On June 29, 2012, Deputy Mayor Ding Yalin of Xiangyang and Mayor James Brainard entered into a letter of intent for establishing sister city ties on behalf of the two cities, marking a new milestone of exchanges and cooperation between Xiangyang and Carmel, which will surely lay a solider foundation for emotional exchanges and economic cooperation between people from the two cities.

On April 13 through 15, 2015, in order to promote friendly exchanges between Xiangyang and Carmel, Mayor of Carmel appointed Prof. Zhou Shaoyu from Indiana University School of Medicine as his representative to visit Xiangyang. During the visit, Ge Lin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xiangyang Municipal Committee, met with Prof. Zhou and the professor also had talks with the principal of the education system in Xiangyang, with an exchange programme reached between students from Xiangyang No.4 High School and those from Carmel.

On August 20, 2015, students from Xiangyang No.4 High School went Carmel for a summer camp exchange activity.

On September 12, 2015, Carmel Chinese Mooncake Festival organized by Carmel-Xiangyang Sister City Committee was successfully held in Indiana Design Center. The Mooncake Festival celebration was held in Carmel for the fifth straight year and attracted more than one thousand citizens.

Introduction to Carmel

Carmel is located in Hamilton County, Indiana, USA and neighbors Indianapolis, the capital of the state of Indiana. With a population of about 80,000, it is one of the wealthiest cities in the Midwest. Public schools in Carmel include 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and one high school. Student enrollment for the district is above 14,000. Besides, there are several private schools. Meridian Corridor in Carmel is the second largest business zone in the state of Indiana and is home to more than 40 corporate head offices and many more regional offices. Many renowned large companies headquarter Carmel, including CNO Financial Group, MISO Group, Delta Faucet, Pearson Education Group and ITT Technical Institute, as well as numerous small and medium-sized enterprises like Seven Corners Group.
