Introduction to Alexandria
Alexandria is located in the north of Egypt and the northwestern corner of Nile Delta. It borders the Mediterranean to the north, covers an area of 2,818 square kilometers and has a population of about 4.9 million.
Alexandria is an important industrial base in Egypt, where 40% of industries nationwide are situated, mainly including iron & steel, shipbuilding, oil refining, textile, fertilizer and cement. Alexandria bears 75% of total imported and exported cargos. It is also the world-famous cotton market.
Alexandria is the first African geographical name introduced to China, which was called Lixuan, Wuchisan and Alisan in the Chinese history. Chinese scholars believe that porcelains and silk in ancient China were transported to Roman Empire via Alexandria, and Queen Cleopatra ever wore clothes woven with Chinese silk.
